Inspiration
Mrs. Khamta Saenloet grew up with local wisdom passed down from generation to generation, especially in mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing, which form the foundation of silk weaving in the Non Sang community. Her love for traditional crafts became an important inspiration for conserving and developing inherited knowledge while recognizing its potential to be transformed into valuable cultural products that generate income for both family and community. For her, the focus is not only on producing cloth, but also on “preserving the essence of wisdom” while “adapting it to suit the modern era.

In-depth Knowledge: Natural Dyeing Techniques in Textile Production
One of Mrs. Khamta’s core specializations is the use of natural dyes for silk and cotton threads prior to weaving. She has preserved this ancient technique while applying it in unique ways, focusing on color pairing that harmonizes and reflects the natural beauty of local raw materials.
Key Highlights of this Technique include:
• Careful selection of natural dye sources such as bark, leaves, flowers, and local herbs, e.g., Padauk bark, wild mango bark, indigo leaves, turmeric.
• Seasonal variation in shade selection, as each raw material yields different tones depending on the harvest period.
• Adjusting color intensity through repeated soaking, modifying acidity/alkalinity, or fermentation.
• Skillful pairing of colors and patterns to create textiles that are visually pleasing, versatile for both fashion and ceremonial use.
• Enhancing colorfastness using natural mordants such as banana peel water or tamarind extract.

Views on the Conservation and Development of Local Textiles
At present, Thai textiles have clearly evolved from their traditional forms in patterns, designs, and applications in daily life. This is a positive sign of creative development rooted in local wisdom. The key to conservation and development lies in providing opportunities for younger generations to learn, inherit, and build upon traditional knowledge, thereby enhancing the capacity of both individuals and communities.
True conservation is not about remaining in the past, but about moving forward with deep roots, with a strong understanding of the value of what already exists.
