<strong>Asst. Prof. Pasit Saengsoda<\/strong> (Ajarn Ron Hongkham), whose lifelong aspiration was to \u201creturn home\u201d and create a local learning center for the community. He had left home at the age of 12 to study at Wat Inthararam Worawihan, Thonburi, driven by his deep passion for the arts.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ajarn Pasit had the opportunity to pursue higher studies in the fine arts, beginning with his dedication under <strong>Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat<\/strong>. Eventually, however, he chose to study in the <strong>\u201cWang Chai\u201d Royal Palace Project<\/strong>, initiated under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This program focused on the <em>Ten Traditional Crafts<\/em> (Chang Sip Mue), starting with traditional painting before advancing to <strong>royal goldsmithing<\/strong>, a craft renowned for its precision and ancient techniques such as traditional gold casing and royal metalwork.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Inspired by the symbolism of the <strong>Navaratna Ring (Nine Gems Ring)<\/strong> and his passion for craftsmanship, Ajarn Pasit dedicated himself to preserving and passing on the artistic knowledge he acquired within the palace walls. His teaching philosophy was founded on the principle: <em>\u201cCopy the ancients\u2014never create on your own\u201d<\/em>, emphasizing the importance of understanding the true foundation of Thai art before developing one\u2019s own creative expression.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After graduating and serving as a <strong>research officer in the Royal Palace<\/strong> for five years, he resigned from civil service to focus on developing his own potential and caring for his family. During this time, he established the <strong>\u201cBan Nai Chang Thong\u201d (House of the Goldsmith)<\/strong>, envisioned as a warm, homelike workshop rather than a commercial shop. His goal was to transform his hometown into both a <strong>\u201clearning hub and a source of livelihood\u201d<\/strong> under the name <strong>Hong Kham Suwanchat<\/strong>, drawing inspiration from cultural tourism landmarks such as <strong>Dusit Dewa in Koh Samui<\/strong>, the <strong>Jim Thompson House<\/strong>, and the <strong>cosmological principles<\/strong> applied in architectural planning, including shrines, ponds, and stupas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The name <strong>\u201cHong Kham Suwanchat\u201d<\/strong> carries a profound meaning, translated as <em>\u201cthe elder brother who is a goldsmith establishing this golden house.\u201d<\/em> It reflects four core concepts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Knowledge (Sart):<\/strong> The wisdom and skills passed down through generations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Art (Sin):<\/strong> The beauty and cultural value of craftsmanship.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community (Thin):<\/strong> The connection with local ways of life and identity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Golden Heritage (Suwanna):<\/strong> The prosperity and exquisite refinement embodied in the arts, such as goldwork, <em>Cham Kham<\/em> designs, and handwoven textiles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One unique feature of Hong Kham Suwanchat is the adaptation of motifs from <strong>Wat Tham Suwannakhuha<\/strong>, transformed into the contemporary <strong>\u201cCham Kham\u201d patterns<\/strong> used in modern products such as clothing, loincloths, and bags. These are created with everyday tools easily found in the community, including sponges, scouring pads, or even makeup brushes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>At present, Hong Kham Suwanchat Academy has become a comprehensive learning center<\/strong>, offering training in Cham Kham textile printing, natural dyeing, goldsmithing, banana-leaf and floral crafts, as well as Thai music.
