In-depth Knowledge: Fabric Pattern Weaving Techniques
● Chok Technique: Using a “chok stick” to lift specific warp threads to form patterns, usually with a contrasting color to the base cloth. Entirely handmade, requiring a high level of skill.
● Khid Technique: Creating patterns by selectively raising warp threads and passing the weft through. Patterns are often horizontal, consistent, and faster to weave compared to chok.
● Yok Dok Technique: Supplementing with extra weft threads to form raised patterns above the fabric surface. Requires multiple weft threads and special equipment, resulting in dimensional, elegant, and luxurious designs.

Highlights of This Technique
● Highly intricate craftsmanship. Patterns are delicate and complex, considered the most difficult among the three techniques, requiring skill, patience, and precision.
● Suitable for consistent geometric designs. By “lifting heddles” to raise warp threads into patterns, the weft is passed through to form repeating motifs.
● Creates luxurious raised patterns. Particularly popular in high-end silk textiles, these patterns are elaborate, requiring multiple weft sets, detailed design drafts, structural understanding, and specialized equipment.
Opinion on the Preservation and Development of Local Handwoven Textiles
Preservation is crucial because it is a cultural heritage. Weaving techniques such as chok, khid, and yok dok are art forms passed down through many generations. Protecting them is not just about conserving appearances but about preserving the way of life and identity of the community
